A comprehensive eye examination is vital to maintaining proper vision and eye health.

A comprehensive eye exam includes a thorough discussion of your symptoms, general and eye health history,  neurologic evaluation, measurement of your glasses and or contact lens prescriptions, eye shape, measurement of your eye pressure as well as examination of the external and internal eye structures.

A through eye examination can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 60 minutes depending on the complexity of the exam and potential ancilary testing required.   You may require eye drops that may affect your vision close up vision, so plan accordingly.

Dr. Ludwig performs a complete review of your patient history as well as a full assessment of your eye health and vision. A current exam is important to determining if you are a candidate for LASIK surgery and if there are any other factors that may affect your results. The history review enables our optometrist to determine if your prescription is stable and you are healthy enough to consider surgery. 

Once Dr. Ludwig has performed the evaluation and determined whether you are a candidate for LASIK, you will be given a referral to the LASIK surgery center we have worked with on an ongoing basis. The center will perform advanced diagnostic testing and will evaluate your eligibility for surgery. Various surgery options will be discussed with you if you are determined to be a surgical candidate. We will be in correspondence with the center regarding your evaluation and surgical determination. In the eye, the natural crystalline lens focuses light rays on the retina to produce an image. At birth, the lens is clear. With time, the lens starts to get cloudy and obstruct light. This cloudy lens is known as a cataract and can diminish vision. Fortunately, cataract treatments and surgery are available to restore clear vision. By replacing the natural lens with an intraocular lens during cataract surgery patients can reduce or eliminate their need for glasses or contacts following the procedure.

When eyes become excessively dry, it leads to irritation, burning, redness and blurred vision. Contact lenses can exacerbate these conditions by making it feel like a foreign object is stuck in your eye. 

There are many causes of dry eye, and identifying the root cause is essential to successful treatment outcomes.  Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), and Blepharitis,  affects the tear layer quality.  Meibomian glands produce oils that protect the tear layer from evaporation.  Blepharitis in inflammation of the lid margins due to a hypersensitivity to our natural bacteria that lives on our lids.  Inflammation can be a huge factor in the outcome of your dry eye treatment.  Here at Cornea & Contact Lens Associates we will custom taylor your treatment plan based off of your symptoms and lid presentation.

Keratoconus is a non-inflammatory disorder that causes thinning of the corneal tissue, which in turn causes warping or distortion of the corneal window.  This warping or distortion can make patients very sensitive to light and drastically reduce the quality of vision.  Keratoconus is usually first detected in a patients their  thinned and steepened, resulting in distorted vision, sensitivity to light, and decreased vision. Symptoms typically manifest in a person’s younger years, usually the late teens or 20’s.

Keratoconus can affect a person’s ability to read or drive, which can be a major obstacle for people.
